There are a lot of different nursing courses out there and the number of choices available to people who are interested in pursuing a career in the medical field as a nurse are growing every year. The healthcare industry continues to grow as the industrialized world has a steadily growing population of older people; advances in medical science have enabled us to live longer and healthier lives and this means that there is a continual growth in the demand for well trained medical professionals, including nurses.
If you choose to go into the nursing profession, it is hard to imagine a time in the foreseeable future when there will not be plenty of opportunities available. Depending on your career goals, you can choose from different courses which are tailored towards preparing you for these goals. You can find courses which are as short as one year, but there are others which take four or more years to complete. If your goal is to earn a LPN or a LVN, then you can do this in one or two years at a community college or university. The most common educational path for a prospective nurse is to enroll in an associates program, which involves two years of classroom instruction and clinical rotations, though many others choose to continue with their nursing education and complete a Bachelor’s degree. For those individuals looking for a more advanced level of education as a nurse, there are even doctorate programs and other postgraduate programs available in the nursing profession at many of the same universities which offer two and four year nursing programs.
