We learn in different ways and it all depends on the teacher. As a student, I hate listening to boring instructors. I would rather sleep or do something else than listen if the teacher keeps on talking and writing on the blackboard for two hours and more. Isn’t that dragging? Students want something interesting, not monotonous. If teachers continue to do this, then learning is not fun at all. Instructors should consider creative and effective teaching strategies to get the attention of students. Different strategies should be applied to determine the most successful teaching method in a certain class.

Instructors can start by assessment. Observe the behavior and attitude of the students toward the lesson. You can also provide tests to examine their knowledge level from the previous lessons. It will aid in determining whether the students were given proper learning strategies from the past. After assessment, you can start applying suitable teaching methods in class.

You can teach in an informal way. Teaching doesn’t always mean being formal. Instructors who have been in the profession for years know their students well. Teachers are usually aware of their old student’s personalities, interests, and skills. New students are quite difficult to handle. You still need to adapt on changes and assess them. Get to know them by asking questions about previous education, expectations, interests,and hobbies. If you’re teaching in elementary, then it’s best to acquire information from them through drawings or questionnaires. If you’re teaching in high school or college, then ask them one-by-one directly. Some professors don’t mind familiarizing their students by asking. They just check the student’s list and mention names. Students respond by raising their hands or by stating “present”.
